Kendo (from Japanese 剣道, ken=sword, dō=way) is the modern version of traditional Japanese sword fighting, which involves fighting in armour with a bamboo sword. The rule here is: First train hard, then relax together with a cool drink - that's kendo for us.
Kendo has existed in Germany since the 1960s. There are 12 regional associations spread across Germany. These are organised under the umbrella of the Deutscher Kendobund e.V. (German Kendo Association). In Berlin alone there are currently 7 clubs, all of which belong to the Kendo Association Berlin e.V. Image film of the German Kendo Federation

Tekkeikan is the kendo division of the Olympischer Sport-Club BERLIN e.V. The history of the OSC dates back to 6 January 1890 and the first training session of the kendo division took place on 17 October 2011. As the photo shows, the founders are Alexander Triebsees, Stefan Linz, Sabine Nuding, Joern Barthel and Jan Ulmer (from left to right).
In 2024, we took 2nd place in the Berlin Team Championship. This year we achieved 1st place with Kei Udagawa at the Berlin Women's Individual Championship and 2nd place with Jan Ulmer at the Berlin Men's Individual Championship. This makes us the reigning Berlin team and individual champions!
Our trainers embody the essence of dedication, skill and passion for the art of Japanese swordsmanship. Their knowledge not only comes from years of rigorous training, but also reflects a genuine love for passing on their knowledge to eager students.
You want to do kendo? We offer you an exciting and great introduction with a beginners' course with our Tekkeikan Juniors. In cooperation with some schools, we also offer trial lessons during the holidays. Just take a look at our dates and see what suits you best. In any case, you will have the opportunity to get to know kendo with our experienced instructors.

“After a long day at school, it's great to let off steam with other young people and children. With me, you'll learn how to skilfully use your feet to elegantly wield the bamboo sword. Concentration, responsiveness, physical agility and appreciation of your opponent are also a few cool elements that I will teach you. I look forward to seeing YOU!”
Have you always wanted to try kendo? But once is not enough for you? That's why we have a beginner's course for you! The beginner's course lasts about 10 weeks and during these 10 weeks we will show you the basics of kendo. At the end of each course you will take the 6th kyu exam.
Our beginners' course lasts 10 weeks. Training always takes place on Tuesdays from 20:00 to 21:30. Please bring sportswear, no training shoes and plenty of enthusiasm. We will provide you with the shinai, your training sword and probably the best trainers in the world. The training is very physical and as a participant you must be at least 18 years old.

“Kendo ist fordernd, gibt aber ungefragt auch viel zurück. Es kann helfen äußere Barrieren zu überwinden und innere Spannungen abzubauen. Dafür lohnt es sich ordentlich reinzuhauen.”

“In addition to teaching kendo, having fun is my top priority. It is important to have a smile on your face even when you go beyond your personal comfort zone.”
Our training times depend on the school vacations in Berlin and can also change here and there for special events. Please check below to see if the training takes place on the respective day, as this is always up-to-date. If the training is canceled at short notice for any reason, you will find the information here, in our Signal group and via Spond.
